What is a fuel cap for?
Although it won’t cause a break down, your
fuel cap is important to avoid evaporation of petrol or diesel gas from the fuel tank, especially in hot weather or simply as your car engine gets warmer when you’re driving.
Also, don’t forget the risk of dust and dirt particules entering into the fuel tank resulting in your
fuel filter clogging up a lot more quickly than with a closed tank.
In some vehicles this will cause your ‘check engine’ light will come on if your fuel tank isn’t properly closed.
And with petrol and diesel prices constantly rising, do not underestimate the increased risk of fuel theft. There are both lockable and non-lockable petrol caps available however if you want to limit the chances of your fuel being stolen as much as possible we recommend you order a lockable
petrol cap.
