What are cv joints?

Constant velocity joints or homokinetic or cv joints are in fact the link between the drive shaft and the wheels of the car.

There are different types of cv joints including the tracta joints which have a double tongue and a groove joint, the Rzeppa joints consisting of a sphere on the inside with 6 grooves and an outer shell. The Weiss joints which also turn thanks to a ball joint and the Thompson coupling in which two cardan shafts join via a control yoke. Although cv joints are typically used on front wheel drive cars, more and more rear wheel drive cars also get cv joints at the end of the rear axle propshafts. The cv joint is always protected by a rubber cover called the cv gaiter or cv boot
