What is a car clutch? The clutch is the link between the engine and the gearbox. As such it is located in the engine compartment. A clutch kit
as sold on Mister-Auto.ie consists of three clutch parts: the clutch release bearing
, the discs and the pressure plates. A clutch
lasts about 62 000 miles in a petrol engine and 93 000 miles in a diesel engine. It wears more or less depending on your driving style and driving environment. If you drive a lot in town centres or have your car pull a caravan, your clutch will wear more quickly. If however, you drive predominantly on motorways, it will last longer. Tips to delay your clutch replacement
: - Don’t keep your clutch engaged when waiting for a red traffic light. This needlessly uses the pressure plates
and consequently the entire clutch system - When driving, do not keep your foot on the clutch pedal. Even very light pressure onto the pedal uses the disc. - Drive off smoothly - Always drive off in first gear Please note: when replacing your car clutch, at Mister-Auto.ie we recommend you change all three parts listed above (the pressure plates, the release bearing and the clutch disc
) at the same time to ensure even use.
