What is the clutch disc?
The
clutch disc is part of your car’s clutch system. Its purpose is to ensure the driver can change gears.
The clutch disc is pressed against a second disc or the
flywheel with springs (the
pressure plates). When the driver of the car presses the clutch pedal, the pressure onto the clutch disc is released thereby allowing the clutch discs to rotate freely.
Clutch discs consist of material that facilitates the friction between the spline and the pressure plates. In addition it has a protective coating. In the middle of the clutch disc you will find a hub to which the ‘shaft’ of the gearbox is fixed. The movement of this shaft drives the crackshaft.
